In cooperation with the Training and Development Fund for the Dredging and Marine Construction (O&O Fund), a new edition of the internship preparation booklet “What Will You Take in Your Suitcase? Tips & Tricks for Maritime Adventurers” has been published. This second edition has been revised in response to feedback received from students, educators, and professionals in the maritime sector. In particular, the chapter “Staying True to Yourself” has been completely rewritten to better prepare future seafarers for the personal and social challenges of life at sea.
The booklet is used during the seminars presented at numerous maritime academies throughout the Netherlands by dredging pastor Stefan Francke and port chaplains Helene Perfors and Pascal Handschin. These seminars help prepare future seafarers not only for the technical aspects of life at sea, but also for its personal, social, and intercultural challenges.
